HTTPS supported for streaming?
« on: 21 Nov '17 - 22:57 »
Hi Ian,

The subject says it all. Is HTTPS supported for streaming? And how are false ssl certificates handled?

Thanks again!

Do you mean receiving HTTPS streams, eg. with BASS_StreamCreateURL? If so, HTTPS is indeed supported. Certificate problems are currently ignored.

Hi

for me (Bass 2.4.12.14 on Windows)

http://wdr-wdr3-live.cast.addradio.de/wdr/wdr3/live/mp3/256/stream.mp3
is ok

https://wdr-wdr3-live.sslcast.addradio.de/wdr/wdr3/live/mp3/256/stream.mp3
does not work - Bass Error: 2 (can't open the file)

both urls are fine when used from browser

Somehow I cannot see the point for ssl with single-url-request audio streams anyway. But what do I know?

That's strange, both URLs are currently working fine here, with the pre-compiled CONTEST.EXE and NETRADIO.EXE examples included in the BASS package (C\BIN folder). Are you having a problem with the 2nd URL all of the time, or only sometimes? Please also confirm what Windows version you are using.

A dozen test with netradio.exe - all ended with Error 2.

Ok - I suppose you guessed it already: it's XP on an old mini-pc used as mediaplayer for the kitchen. A so-called "unsafe/unsecure" link is available, and https-only streams are very rare it seems at the moment (haven't encountered one yet) - so no need to fix anything for an obsolete OS. Sorry.

Can I make a suggestion? Please implement an override for certificate issues (like the -k Option for curl) if/when full support for https is added to bass. Thank you.

Do you have Internet Explorer 8 and latest updates installed on that system? If not, please try installing them and see if that helps. They can include updates of the WININET library, which BASS uses for downloading on Windows.

The reason is that I am streaming mp3 files from a private password  protected server  and I dont want people monitoring the traffic seeing the password.
