TAR support
« on: 9 Apr '20 - 05:02 »
I am interested in TAR support of solid archives, which load fine in foobar.

Could this be done as a plugin, like 7zip, RAR, ZIP, LZX, LHA etc?

Reason being: I have all of MODLAND neatly stored in TAR for each category, for convenience of moving small files.

Yes, that could probably be supported with an archive plugin. I'll put it on the "look into it" list. In the meantime, perhaps you could use ZIP files with the "store" method (non-compressed) instead of TAR?

I basically TAR'd the entirety of Modland by artist, so that's thousands of files.. a friend provided a script that did the processing and it took quite a while, so it would be quite a large operation to untar and figure a way to batch process all to non-compressed ZIPs. I have been using them with success in foobar2000 for the last couple years.

I originally wanted to make the TARs to optimize the usage of my SSD for file seeking/transfer/reading IOPS, because performance is lost when dealing with many small files. i wasn't aware that other compressed files could be 'uncompressed'.

That would be great if it could be supported.  ;D
