mo3 support site?

lo!

i personally tend to believe mo3 is the best thing since sliced bread. however, the rest of the tracker scene, or whatever is left of that seems not even to know what it is, or why they might want to use it.

i believe one of the reasons for that is that mo3 has primarily targeted at developers using BASS for whatever purpose, rather than a 'general purpose' sizereduction tool for scene music releases.

which i find a bit of a shame, since it is a wonderful. i've read various posts and irc logs of people considering whether or not to upload/send the 40meg module version of their latest mp3 release somewhere for those who were interested in the pattern code. mo3 is _the_ answer to take away such issues.

i would therefore like to make a simple, unofficial website to support mo3, explaining what it does to people who are not into developing whatsover, and also spreading 'full' download packages with, say, mo3.exe, unmo3.exe and oggenc.exe, plus the appropriate documentation and licensing information (ofcourse) for people who want to distribute their bloated modules, but don't care about BASS sdk stuff and all that.

because this would include redistributing parts of packages you made, i thought it would be a good idea to ask for permission here first. ofcourse you will receive all the credit, and i'll try to put all copyright information and stuff like that as clearly as possible on all pages and in all files i'd distribute.

it's just too often that i want to point people at mo3 as a solution, and it being a pain in the ass for me to explain ('why would i want to download some module replayer dll? i cant even code!'). often people think i made a typo and meant mp3.

this must be stopped =]
so if it's okay with you, i'm gonna make a little page with some info on why mo3 rocks.

(i decided to post this here instead of emailing it because some other people mgiht have suggestions or flames or what i'm trying to do might be done already)

update!

got some texts, some packages and a bit of a FAQ ready, but i'm atm combinedly terribly busy and terribly lazy, so it _probably_ won't be done before 2002. sorry.

No problem... the next BASS/MO3 releases (they'll be separate "packages") won't be until January either :)

The generel public behaviour regarding the MO3 really pisses me off, I think there should be  a lot more support from sites like UT or modarchive, also it should be accepted in the compos too so people will be incouraged about down-sizing their mods.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I have been making a site with an MO3 section innit. I have a had the idea for some time now, but I'll really concentrate on providing ppl with music encoded in MO3. I'll just take popular and BIG mods and encoded them and post them there. Of cource the info about encoding will be provided too as its probably what I intend to make them realize is the best choice.

And I hope u let us know ur URL when its done 'skrebbel' or maybe let me (and others) contribute to if u want help.

MO3 rulez!
