Yes, but I thought that one of the "features" of mp4 is the ability to have it be a container for other formats.  I just wondered if....

MP4 container can contain various audio and videoformats. It can e.g. contain ALAC, or mp3 and xvid and on and on.... This plugin however, are for decoding AAC - in and out of MP4 container.

Yes. exactly. XMPlay also can't play FLAC files if they are wrapped inside an Ogg container, although the introduction page claims Ogg playback.

By the way, on their own websites none of the broadcasters streaming in AAC+ currently mentions XMPlay as an option for handling this format - they all say either that Winamp is the only compatible player, or that Winamp and VLC are the only ones.

Sorry, I don't think so. This is no doubt part of the more general question of XMPlay's great qualities not being known or appreciated by streamcasters.

We're talking about several dozen broadcasters currently streaming in AAC+, with the number growing all the time. Then there's the work involved in finding out exactly whom to contact, preparing e-mails and following them up as necessary. And as I observed, this is only the tip of a large iceberg because most broadcasters have hardly even heard of XMPlay in the first place. I certainly have neither the time nor the inclination to undertake that kind of campaign. I'm not sure what being freeware has to do with it - both Winamp and, more interestingly, VLC are getting mentions on these websites.

I wasn't talking about a campaign; I was talking a bout a line . I understand that there might be too much for one guy to be done, if all broadcasters should be considered. I just think it would be a great way to increase XMPlay's popularity, when people would see the player among Winamp and others. Well, it's not such a big deal anyway, I was just thinking.
