.cue files
« on: 21 Sep '05 - 01:51 »
Hi.

I believe i have the latest XMPlay player, the 3.2 version. Although it just wont open my handy.cue files in the album folder.

Is that all alright?
Thanks.

It won't open the .cue files directly, but if you have it properly assigned to a file which is in same folder, xmp is able to pick it up.

That may as well be in a playlist ;)

XMPlay will automatically pick up single file CUE sheets, like DJ sets, eg. where the file is something.mp3 and the CUE sheet is something.cue

That's the strangest usage of a CUE sheet I've ever seen.

I dont get it.

You mean something like this? One huge image file splitted with the .cue sheet?

Oh, besides, I am not a DJ so i dunno what your talking about.

All i know is that XMP freezes when i attempt to play any .cue files.

Umm, please help. :-(

xmplay intends to work with a single file (for example album.mp3) and a single cue file (album.cue) to find the subsongs in the file. if you rip a cd to one file (multi-track-ripping), you end up with one large file that contains only one song: everything. with a cue-sheet, you can divide this large song into multiple subsong, so you essentially have the tracks back.

what you have:
Code: [Select]
track1.mp3
track2.mp3
track3.mp3
album.cue
album.m3u

what xmplay does work with:
Code: [Select]
album.mp3
album.cue

if you load album.mp3 in xmplay, it will automatically parse the cue-file and display the title of the track. note that the tracks don't show up on the playlist, cause they're subsongs and not songs. right-click on the next-button to advance to the next track.

the way you're using a cuesheet is rather strange, because you could put all the info you have in the tags of the mpc-files and make a playlist out of it (the m3u you already have).
btw, cue files don't contain audio, just text, so xmplay should reject them or should try to read them out to you using Micro$ofts Text-to-Speech engine ;D

i hope i clarified things a bit for you ;)

Ah, just did a test here.

It shows the track names separately but i cant advance to a track by pushing "next" button.

Guess i will need some sort of plugin implementation as to what i am for? :-/

Just take a peek at how my Foobar comports when loading a .cue sheet for a single compressed file:

They are subsongs, you have to right-click the next button to get to then, as Dotpitch said above

I'd like to state for the record that I love the way cuesheets are [strictly] handled currently and would not like it to change UNLESS the playlist is changed to a tree instead of a linear list.

In that case, being able to create branches and expand songs with sub-songs would be nice and this kind of improper behavior would be... ...well, I'd still hate it and think it's wrong, but at least the structure would be there to handle it.
