the last successful submission was apparently in March, according to earlier data in the log...

why hasn't it submitted anything since then, only to save up 72 new scrobbles which still - 25 minutes after logging an apparent successful submission - haven't appeared in my chart of recently listened tracks ?

???

Dotpitch

Only 10 tracks can be submitted at once, so it'll take some time to submit the complete cache. Could you switch on debug logging (in the plugin config)? Have the tracks still not showed up on your profile?

raina

You seem to be running a rather dated copy of xmp-scrobbler. I think you should update first and look for solutions second, if the problem persists. I recently had some problems with submitting titles from a cue file, with xmp-scrobbler 0.9.6. The pre-0.9.7 fixed that.

hukka

Where is this pre-0.9.7 build? I couldn't find anything newer than 0.9.6 and that started crashing when it was time to submit new tracks to last.fm.

My login is correct. I logged out from last.fm and from xmp-scrobbler and logged in again and nothing happens. I can't submit a song since yesterday

Dotpitch

No need to post the whole log, is there?

The handshake is successful, so Last.fm servers are running fine. You should try re-entering your username/password once again. If that doesn't help, rename the cache file and start XMPlay. My submissions are still fine, btw.

The above means that Last.fm is not accepting your authentication from the plugin.

If you are very sure that the password is correct, here's a wild guess: Are you using any funky characters in the password, i.e. some non-ASCII characters?

I am using:  [INFO] Hello, this is xmp-scrobbler Pre-0.9.7.
I have a couple of problems:

1)  XMPLAY AudioScrobbler plugin loses the login credentials:

2010-10-01 10:44:55   [INFO] Preparing to submit 1 track from cache.
2010-10-01 10:44:55   [DEBUG] Submitting.
2010-10-01 10:44:55   [DEBUG] Submission failed, the server reported bad authorization.

I can fix this by going to:
Options and stuff/Plugins/, selecting xmp-scrobbler, Remove it, then re-Add it, close options and stuff.

However, this usually will only work if the cache is empty.  If the cache has several songs to submit, I will 90% of the time, crash.  Which leads to my second problem.

2)  If the submission cache has several items in it, I cannot submit it without following some specific steps, which , I think, are interesting.

when this occurs, I have tried playing just 1 track, as opposed to loading in a list of songs.  even with just one song, when the scrobbler goes to submit the track, it crashes XMPLAY.

The ONLY way I have been able to get past this (short of deleting the cache file) is to play a VERY short song:

2010-10-01 10:24:48   [INFO] The current track is "[silence]" by Ministry.
2010-10-01 10:24:48   [DEBUG] Caching for submission in 26 seconds.
2010-10-01 10:25:13   [DEBUG] Scheduling a new submission.
2010-10-01 10:25:13   [DEBUG] Adding track to cache: 1 track in cache, 10 slots.
2010-10-01 10:25:13   [INFO] Track added to cache for submission.
2010-10-01 10:25:13   [INFO] Preparing to submit 1 track from cache.
2010-10-01 10:25:13   [DEBUG] Submitting.
2010-10-01 10:25:14   [INFO] Submission succeeded.

I am not sure why it works with a shorter song.  I can't see why that would matter, but it usually does the trick.  Once i get the cache emptied, I am back to normal.   No crashing, etc...

I see 2 problems.  1)  at somewhat random times, for whatever reason, the login credentials fail to the last.fm server.  Once you have ONE failure, you need to go manually reset it by removing and reading the xmp-scrobbler plugin.  When I do this, I don't retype my password or anything.  It has all that info.  It's as if the xmp-scrobbler gives up trying to login if it fails 1x.  Perhaps if the plugin were modified to try more than once?  maybe on a 10 sec interval or something.  If I can fix it by manually removing and reading the plugin, the program should be able to do something I similar.

The second problem is the whole app crashes when there is a bunch of stuff in the cache.  "A bunch" can be anywhere from 2 to 40 tracks.  I have even seen it crash when it had nothing in the cache, but that is after xmplay is left open over night.

I really like this plugin, and I have tried various versions of the app.  I experience this going through a web-proxy, as well as not going through a web-proxy, so I don't think that is a factor.

any ideas?  do you want more information?  Let me know.

Do you happen to be using Saved settings with auto-load? I can't really think of another reason for xmp-scrobbler to use different credentials (and I've certainly never seen it do this). What Windows do you have, btw?

If it happens again, could you save the cache file and post it here? Does the short track also fix the problem if its title is "silence" rather than "[silence]"?

I checked and it does not appear that I am using Saved Settings with AUTO LOAD, of course, I never knew about that feature in XMPLAY, so perhaps I am looking in the wrong area.
Both machines are  Windows XP SP3

Short track can be any short song I have tried (< 2mins).  It is odd, but I get pretty consistent success if:
1) I have one song in play list (I can't drag a whole list of songs over for instance)
2)  that song is "short", i.e. 2 minutes or less.  I have occasionally been able to do it with longer songs (4+ mins), but my perception is that a shorter song works better.  If the longs songs fail after 2 tries, I will try the short song and it works like a champ.

Ironically, it has not happened since I posted the original problem.

If it happens again, I will post the cache file.

xmp-scrobbler 0.9.6
xmplay 3.5.1.53

hi. noticed that when playing dir with mp3 files the first file from playlist is sent to lastfm but other ones which playing next are not appearing in last played tracks. i.e. the track which is double-clicked (activly selected for playing) is sent but in case of playing next ones automatically by player not. is it normal?

I found 0.9.6 went sour after a while but the 0.9.7pre fixed any and all problems I was having. You can find it attached to this post:

THIS.

By the way. Why is this plugin getting worse with every update that comes? If the programmer can't do it right, don't do it at all. Right now I have to use 0.8 to get it to work at all for more than 1 song submission in a row.

You didn't answer at my question at all.

And probably didn't mean to. Replying simply "this" is supposed to be the expression du jour meaning "I second this", "I agree", "Hear, hear" or even "+1".

No, it doesn't. And I'm not sure if I should support this as it's not recommended in the Audioscrobbler protocol specification:

"If a user is playing a stream instead of a regular file, do not submit that stream/song."

And that's what Winamp plugin is doing - it doesn't submit anything except regular music files. What are your thoughts about this?

Please support icecast/shoutcast. I was using Foobar2000 and recently discovered the amazing XMPlay. The only regret is XMPlay could not scrobble Internet radios. Otherwise it would be perfect.
