Finally some progress in 3D "soundfield" rendering! For the ones that don't know, currently DirectX/OpenAL 3D sounds are not really "3D", they are limited to a x/y plane, as the speakers have to be organised in a quad or 5.1/7.1 cinema fashion. There is no way you can have "height" except by multiplying speakers and listeners, then trying to "simulate" it. Yet there is a solution since years, it's called ambisonics and computers/consoles are finally fast enough for using ambisonics in realtime. I hope to see an implementation in BASS one of these days.
