Decoding quality
« on: 10 Oct '17 - 17:01 »
I didn't find any information about the quality and performance of
bass' decoders compared to ffmpeg, libav etc.
Also I would like to know if bass is developped from scratch
or maybe based on one of the above codecs mentioned.
Thank you!

BASS doesn't use FFMPEG. I haven't compared them myself, but assuming neither is buggy then the decoders in both should produce the same output.

So BASS is a development from scratch?
From the other mentioned decoders there are still bug fixes/ updates from time to time.
So I wonder how it is guaranteed that BASS' decoding is always correct and if it always performs well/ quick enough.
And then there are all the (decoding) add-ons.
I ask because I need to know if I can rely on it's quality.
And I haven't found any comparison in the net.

Some of the decoders were written from scratch but most are based on other libraries. In case of the latter, it will be stated in a "Credits" section of the TXT file included in the packages.
