Old:Winamp Visualisations in XMPlay (0.9.11) (plus album art with auto download)

I don't know what to say. But this is happening on more than 1 computer.
I wonder how many users are using this with FLAC.

Does it always crash on the same file?
If yes, again, send one of the non-working files to me, please.
If no, I'll try to make the loading code more crash proof :-)

I think it happens with most or all flac files, but I think some are quicker to crash than others.
Be sure to try switching to the album art, then switch back to one of the info panels.

hmm, I tried now for quite a few minutes with your new sample, the one you sent before, and my own test FLAC files I created.
I clicked wild, pressed all kinds of buttons switched around all kinds of stuff and tried all options. Oh, and I also tried to use the program 'normal'. Not one single crash.

Well, lets try something different.

Download the new 0.9.10 Release from: http://www.nukular.ch/winamp_svp_0.9.10.zip
Make sure it says "Winamp Wrapper 0.9.10" under the Visualisation panel with the "Show Album Art" option (middle mouse) disabled.
Get XMPlay to crash on the FLAC file
Upload the DRWTSN32.LOG for me.

If you're using XP, you should find the DRWTSN32.LOG file here...

   C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

If you can't find the dr watson logfile try to google where you can find it or something equivalent for your operating system environment setup.

It seemed to work right up until I closed XMPlay.

There is no Dr. Watson in Vista. It has been replaced with Problem Reports & Solutions. Here is the Problem Report.

hmmm.... there isn't much information there (compared to the 1000+ lines of a dr watson report).

I've found some more information about the Vista Error Report thingy

The Dr Watson debugger is obsolete. There is no Dr Watson in Vista. It has been superceded by Windows Error Reporting (WER).

On Vista, WER will create a mini-dump file of the process, when the application crashes. This has a *.mdmp extension. It is written to the Drive:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp directory. The user can also access this file by going to Control Panel, System and Maintenance, Problem Reports and Solutions, View Problem History. Highlight the crash, in the list of problems, rigth click and choose View Problem Details. If a dump was created for the crash, the details will include a link entitled "View a temporary copy of these files". This opens an Explorer window on the directory containing the mini-dump and othe supporting diagnostic files. The user can drag and drop these files to another location, to send to you.

The mini-dump file is an ordinary Windows Dump file. Your engineer guys can load it up in WinDBG and then issue the "!analyze -v" command. This will print out a report with all the same information contained in a Dr Watson Log...

Can you try looking for that minidump file for me?

I don't have access to a vista box, so I need your help here :-) All my friends who tried it went back to their old OS as quick as possible...

I just tried again, with the same result.

Ok, I got access to a Windows 2008 server which seems to look and behave more or less like Vista.
So after I oriented myself with the new OS, I saw XMPlay crash instantly while trying to view the album art. After some debugging I was able to locate and fix a memory allocation/writing bug which occurred when converting the FLAC tag picture description from UTF8 to Unicode for showing it in the middle mouse cover menu.
