Unicode ID3v2 Tag
« on: 6 Jan '09 - 13:16 »
Hi!

Can somebody point me to some docs about unicode ID3v2 frame structure?
I want to store unicode tag (artist, title, etc.) in the ID3v2. Checked the http://www.id3.org/id3v2.4.0-frames description, but didn't find the info, always just states "Text encoding      $xx". I think for ansi tag this is just 0, but what is the value for a unicode tag?

Or if somebody could send me (3delite@3delite.hu) a file with unicode tags so I can check it I would be grateful?

Or an application, that can write unicode tags would be also helpful.

You might take the Windows Explorer to write unicode ID3v2 tags.
Winamp or WindowsMediaPlayer are also writing ID3v2 tags in unicode.
A great lib for tag writing is: www.audiogenie.de

The encoding flags and the other stuff is explained here: http://www.id3.org/id3v2.4.0-structure

The encoding flag is a byte with the following values:
0: ISO 8859-1 (codepage 1252 under windows)
1: UTF-16 LittleEndian with BOM
2: UTF-16 BigEndian without BOM
3: UTF-8

Tried with Tag&Rename and it writes as 01 FF FE + unicode text. So I stick with it too.

But if anyone have some more information, please share!

Thanx for the info radio42! Will check.

I stick to mode 1 for now, as Delphi's unicode format is the same as mode 1.
And see for a future update the others.
Thanx for the info! I forgot the terminating zeroes, so big thanx for the description. I looked at that page but overlooked that part.
Thanx again!
